I bet lots of you already know what you’re going to do for March Break. But if you don’t, then here are some ideas! Since there is one week of March Break, you should have lots of time to do AMAZING stuff.

1.    You could stay at a hotel

2.    You could watch a movie

3.    You could visit an amusement park

4.    You could try a new restaurant

5.    You could see a play

These are just a few of my ideas.  Whatever you do, I hope you have a fun March Break!

Oscar Nominations 2011

By: Noah (Gr. 6)

Best Actor Nominees: Javier Bardem (Biutiful), Colin Firth (The King’s Speech), James Franco (127 hours), Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network), and Jeff Bridges (True Grit).

I surveyed a number of people to see who they thought would win the Oscar for best actor. And the majority of the people wanted Colin Firth to win for The King’s Speech.

I watched the Oscars on TV on Sunday, February 27th and as we all predicted, Colin Firth won for best actor for The King’s Speech!  Some of the other Oscar awards winners were Natalie Portman for Black Swan.  The best picture award went to The King’s Speech.  The King’s Speech also won for best director.  Inception won for visual effects.

 The Madness Is Upon Us!!

By: Reid (Gr. 6)

Yes, it’s that time of year again, March Madness! 64 teams are participating for the big prize this year in the month long U.S. college basketball tournament of the year. Some of my favourite teams are the Syracuse Orange Men, the Butler Bulldogs, and the reigning champs, the Duke Blue Devils.  I think it’s going to be an awesome final with my prediction of Duke playing Syracuse. I’m rooting for Duke to win. This year the tournament is being held in Dayton, Ohio. I, personally think that college basketball is a lot more exciting than the NBA. It’s more interesting to watch because they want to win more and there’s more pressure, so the games are closer. It’s also better because they’re all young and very athletic. This year should be a good one!

 Video Game Review

By : Jonah and Alexaner (Gr.5)

(1)Cave Chaos

Capture the crystals before the ground falls away from under your feet. The game gets harder throughout the 30 levels. This game can be found on www.miniclips.com and www.nitrome.com .We would recommend this game because it’s non violent and is a test of hand eye coordination.

(2)Bad Ice Cream

In this game you try to eat the waves of fruit. Make sure to avoid the evil monsters who try to melt you. Luckily you can create walls of ice to stop them from melting you. This game has 50 levels. This game can be found on www.nitrome.com. We would recommend this game because it is fun playing with each other and beating each level.

(3)Medieval Golf

The object of this game is to shoot the arrow/ball in the hole. Make sure you don’t fire your arrow two far. There are 18 levels/holes. This game can be found on www.armorgames.com. We like this game because you have to be able to fire arrows accurately at the hole.

Previously on the Poisoned Pianist:

George Gregson was found dead at the Hellarian Cemetery at 1:00 am. Albert Ellis, well-known partner of Artimis Crouch, Scotland Yard’s lead detective developed a mounting curiosity for this case. He is now awaiting the arrival his friend Artimis who has been investigating the case.

The Poisoned Pianist Part 2

 By: Kielan (Gr.4)

Crouch had said that he would be back at 8:30 pm from his investigations, but it wasn’t until 12:00 midnight that I saw his body looming over me.

“My God Artimis what on earth are you doing home so late?! I thought you had been killed or something!” His response was to shove his hand in front of my face and walk through the door, slamming it behind him. Then I heard the shattering of breaking glass, the whack of a fist against wood and the familiar sound of my friend Artimis Crouch flouncing onto the couch.

The next morning I went over to his house to make him some breakfast in hopes of cheering him up. Surprisingly, I found him very happily dusting away at the window sill.

Well?” I asked. “What did you discover yesterday that made you so grumpy?”

“It was everything! I got all the answers I wanted except for one. Let me tell you what happened from the beginning. I went to Gregson’s neighbour’s house and asked them where they were on the night he died. They were in their house reading. I then went to the other neighbour’s house. They said they were playing with their children. Lastly, I went to Gregson’s house and asked the house keeper where she was on the night of the crime. She said she was tidying up his clothes and shaving things. I asked the house keeper for a list of people that Gregson knew.  On that list was: Georgina and Archie Cregon, Betty Cregon the house keeper herself, Tootes and George Tess, and Terry and Ritagin Forgam, the four neighbours I had spoken to earlier.

I left and headed for the old mortuary to test the body for poison because everyone he knew is either dead, his house keeper or had alibis for the time of death.

I did find poison! White powder was found in his mouth and under his finger nails. I discovered he had eaten at the Manchester Diner twice that day so I went there to investigate. First I tested all the food that was already being served, and then turned the restaurant upside down looking for poison of any kind. I even checked the garbage but I found nothing!

Next I went to the Conservatory of music, which was the place where he had played earlier that day. I was told that he always uses the same room. I checked the practice room and voila, I got the answer! White powder was still on the piano keys. I also found a white glove which also had powder on it. I matched that glove to the one that I saw hanging on a hook right behind the housekeeper, during our interview in the kitchen. It was the housekeeper who killed him!!”

“Bravo Crouch! Bravo!” I said, clapping him on the back.

“Not only that!” He exclaimed, “But she got down on her knees and begged for mercy when I told her she was under arrest. She told me why she did it too. You see, her father was a huge gambler. One day he met Gregson in a poker game. Gregson cheated and took all her father’s money including his house. Her family was cast out onto the streets. They needed money so badly that Betty became Gregson’s housekeeper for only one pound per month. A week later, her father took ill and they did not have enough money for his medicine. He died of Pneumonia and one year later, her mother died of tuberculosis. She blamed Gregson for all of this and so she killed him.”

“But why were you so mad when you came home last night?”

“That my friend is another story entirely. It can wait for another time…”

Pisces or Aries?

Were you born in March? Are you a Pisces or an Aries?  It’s not hard to figure out just look up.  I’m an Aries. If you’re an Aries born in March, you would have to born on the last 10 days of March.  But if you’re a Pisces, you would have to be born the first 20 days.
