Summer By: Emma (Gr. 4)
As summer approaches we scream and shout We’re almost there, 2 steps and…we’re out. There are swings and slides Not like the winter when we skate and glide.
It’s fun swimming in outdoor pools
While all the dads are working with tools. Ice cream flavors, cool popsicles Riding out on your bicycles.
Summers so much fun Too bad fall has too come!

The Lion King The story of The Lion King is about a lion cub and his adventures with his two friends in the African safari. Ms. Schwartz and her Grade 2 class are singing all of the songs from the movie, “The Lion King”. The day of the show is June 16th Ms. Schwartz says, “Our class started learning the songs in January.” The Grade 2 students have also had lots of help from their Grade 4/5 Reading Buddies in room 213. Ms. Schwartz said, “Some of the kids get solos in the songs. I held auditions for the parts. I do think that every one that auditioned did a good job. Our class thinks I picked the right kids for each solo.” Some of the songs in the movie that they will be performing are: “The Circle of Life, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, I Just Can’t Wait to Be King, Hakuna Matata, Africa, The Lion Sleeps Tonight” and a dance number. I interviewed a bunch of kids from Ms. Schwartz’s class this is what they had to say: Rachel: “I really had fun learning the songs. My favourite song is I Just Can’t Wait to Be King because I have my solo in that song. I want the school to know what my voice sounds like. I don’t want people to laugh at us but I do want people to laugh when there is a funny part.” Mikaela: “I am the Lion for the song The Lion Sleeps Tonight”. I really like being the lion. I have a lot fun doing that song. I like that I have to do a roar at the end of the song.” Isabel: “I have the big part in the song Can You Feel the Love tonight. I like all of the movements in the songs that we do. I like singing my duet with Olivia.” “I think it is a wonderful production that Ms. Schwartz is putting on. The kids cans sing very well. I really like the song Africa.”

My School Memories From 2010-2011 By Theadora In this article you will hear some peoples favorite school memories. The bollywood dances were inspiring and interesting. - Ms.Morris The Lion King was a fun experience because we all worked so hard and the final product is this amazing performance. – Ms. Schwartz The bollywood dances because I never saw anything like it. –Ms. Domelle The school play because, when people finally see the play it makes me feel good. The reason it make me feel good is because, when the parents come to see the play and they see their child or their child’s friend up on that stage performing, it makes me feel proud of what the drama club has accomplished. – Mr. Brinsmead For me the Island school was the best part of the school year because, when we played predators and pray it was really fun and a great adventure. –Xavier Project giveback because we got to help charities close to our hearts. Thank you Leslie and Susan. – Fiona and Halley Swim team was just awesome because, when you are swimming and you hear your team mates cheering for you it gives you this feeling that you can’t put into words. If you ever were in the swim team then you would know how great it makes you feel. Thank you Linda’s and Ms. Whitfield you guys are the best swim team coaches in the world. -Theadora For me room 213’s unit on biographies, because the students got to share information with the class about their favorite books from their favorite author. -Ms. Ling
